Chapter 40 – Patient Transactions

Patient records require accurate accounting for each and every visit that the patient has in the practice. This includes the fees charged, payments received, and credits or debits that are applied to the account. The New Transactions window (figure 1) is where all these things take place, with 1 exception. The exception is the posting of insurance payments which is done in the patient’s Insurance Posting window. The New Transactions window provides a summary of the active insurance programs that apply to the patient, the outstanding balances on the account. For those that utilize the complete ChiroSuiteEHR system, there is the Digital Travel Card Message that is displayed in the lower left corner enabling the doctor to send messages from the ChiroPadEMR section to the ChiroOffice New Transactions window.

Getting paid is critical to the success of the practice. The entries made on the New Transactions window will have a major impact on how much the practice is paid.. Regardless of the patient’s Account Type categorization (cash, insurance, etc.) the entries made in the New Transactions window include the fees the practice is charging. These fees are the amounts that the practice expects to collect and will appear on insurance claims and patient billing statements.
