LUNGS EXAM TAB

The Lungs Exam Tab (figure 29) is specific for pulmonary findings. For those that never examine the lungs of the patient, the tab can be skipped with no entries being made.

                   Figure 29

Chest Circumference involves 2 measurements. One is with normal breathing while the other is while the patient has inhaled a very deep breath and is holding it. The entry can be made by using the up and down arrows next to each box, or by typing the number in each box. Note that there is a decimal point in the box that may need to be deleted when just typing the number.

Place a check in Lungs Abnormal when unusual lung sounds are heard through a stethoscope. Then place a check in the appropriate box for each lobe for Rales, Wheezing, and/or Rhoncus.

If the examination included Spirometer measurements, put a check in the box for Spirometer Lung

Vital Capacity. In order for the measurement to be accurate, it requires having the patient repeat the test 3 times. The first set of 3 tests should be administered prior to any adjustment/treatment and a second time after the adjustment/treatment to note the immediate effect of the treatment on the patient’s Lung Vital Capacity.
