This is the maximum balance allowed for the Insurance Balance. If the Insurance Balance is exceeded, a red flashing warning message appears in the ChiroOffice transaction window whenever that window is viewed. It means that immediate action must be taken to contact the insurance company to resolve any issues for the practice to receive payment. It also prevents the insurance balance from growing any larger and avoid future collection problems.
Discount
If you want to give this patient a discount on every visit, enter an amount in this box. By clicking on the drop down arrow, select either percent (%) or specific dollar ($) amount. Pay close attention to the laws of the state the practice is located in, as well as to Federal regulations regarding discounts. For example, Medicare limits the amount of gifts to any patient to only $50 (yes that is fifty) per year, and a discount is considered a gift by Medicare. There are legal ways to give discounts, but the rules vary by state. Before you create a standard discount, find out how to make it legal.
Transaction Types
How do you want the discount to be applied? There are 3 options in order to comply with the laws of all states. Be sure to verify what your state law requires before you set this option.
•PATIENT – The discount will be applied only to the patient responsibility. In some states, the law requires that a discount given to a patient must also be given to insurance companies.
•INSURANCE – The discount will be applied only to the insurance responsibility, and no discount will be given to the patient.
•BOTH – The discount will be applied to both patient and insurance
