In this area, select who will be charged for this product or service. This refers to the party financially responsible for paying the bill. There are 3 options:
•Third Party – use this selection when this service should be billed ONLY to the insurance carrier. For example, if this is a service that is given only to Medicaid patients, the Medicaid law prohibits billing the patient, and this service should be billed only to the Medicaid carrier. Choosing this selection means that the bill for this product or service will NEVER go to the patient.
•Patient – the item applies when the product or service should NEVER be billed to insurance, only directly to the patient.
•Either – the service or product may be assigned and billed to either the insurance or the patient, depending on whether or not you have accepted assignment in the patient’s insurance file.
